Cascading Juniper 32cm

The Chinese juniper bonsai tree has cord-like foliage and reddish bark and is probably the single most sought-after evergreen tree for bonsai enthusiasts. It is easy to look after and very hardy. There are a huge variety of species under the name Juniperus, ranging from trees to shrubs and with scale-like foliage or needle-like.

This gorgeous juniper bonsai tree is standing at approximately 30cm tall in a blue rectangle ceramic oriental pot with a depth of 24cm and width of 22cm. It features an trunk that is cascading , with perfectly balanced branches whose foliage add to the elegant silhouette of this tree.

Cascading Juniper Placement:

Choose an outdoor location that receives full sunlight. Junipers are very hardy but should not be kept indoors and need to be protected from temperatures below -10 °C.

Cascading Juniper Watering and feeding:

They must be watered generously as soon as the top inch of soil gets dry. Do not let the soil dry out fully and avoid constant wetness. See our watering guide.
Only feed periodically during the growing season (March-Oct).

Cascading Juniper Pruning and wiring:

Throughout the growing season, you can trim or pinch back long shoots that stick out from the shape of the tree. Note that the growing tips of juniper foliage are located at the tops of stems so it is imperative to avoid trimming the tree like a hedge as this will weaken the tree significantly and lead to browning needles.
The juniper can withstand aggressive bending of the branches but be careful to protect the bark with raffia or tape to avoid scarring and wounds.
The inner parts of the foliage pads can die due to a lack of light and air. Mitigate this by thinning them as well as manipulating them to fan out using wire.

Cascading Juniper Repotting:

Repot in early spring with a well-draining bonsai soil mix.
