The crab apple bonsai tree provides plenty of interest throughout the year. It produces deep pink buds in early spring, opening to attractive paler pink and white blossoms. In autumn you can expect miniature apples to follow the blossoms before the leaves drop for winter, leaving an interesting silhouette.  

This beautiful crab apple bonsai tree is standing at approximately 40cm tall in a bright blue rectangular ceramic glazed oriental pot with a width of 27cm and depth of 33cm. This crab apple features a beautifully twisted trunk that will leave a gorgeous silhouette in winter.

Placement: 

The crab apple will not survive being kept indoors. Choose a place for it outdoors that is bright and airy and protect from frost in winter.

Watering and feeding:

They must be watered generously as soon as the top inch of soil gets dry. Do not let the soil dry out fully and avoid constant wetness. See our watering guide.
Only feed periodically during the growing season (March-Oct). 

Pruning and wiring:

In the spring, you can cut new shoots back to one or two leaves left on the stem. You should also remove fruits if there are too many because they weaken the tree.
Training your crab apple bonsai using wiring is possible on the younger, suppler branches but conduct training on the older ones with great care as the wood is very brittle. 

Repotting: 

Repot in early spring with a well-draining bonsai soil mix.
