Ibaraki Akadama Shohin Bonsai Soil Description

Ibaraki Akadama Shohin Bonsai Soil is a finer grade than the standard Akadama. It provides excellent drainage and water retention. It offers a free draining structure which promotes healthy root growth and allows the roots to breathe significantly reducing the risk of overwatering & root rot.  The mix contains azomite which is loaded with trace elements and ideal for improving soil acidity. It can also be used to dress the top of the bonsai soil to add visual appeal.

Key Features

  • Excellent drainage
  • Excellent water retention
  • Adds visual appeal
  • Can be mixed with other soils or used on its own
  • Hard variety, lasts longer before needing to be replaced

How it Works

Akadama Shohin is remarkably lightweight, easy to wet and slow release. As a result, it retains a high cation exchange capacity and can help remove excess salts from the roots. The mix also reduces the unwanted build up of metabolic waste. It is suitable for several bonsai species in sloping or upright styles, including ficuses, junipers, pines and elms. The formula contributes to an ideal nutrient balance and pH for most plant species.
