Placement

Pachira aquatica thrives indoors year-round. It prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions better than many tropical plants. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, as this can cause leaf scorch.

Position in a warm room away from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes. Rotate occasionally to encourage balanced growth and maintain its symmetrical canopy.

Watering and Feeding

Watering

No strict schedule — watering needs vary depending on light levels, room temperature, humidity, and pot size.

Allow the top 2–3cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly until excess drains from the bottom, and never allow the plant to sit in standing water. Reduce watering during autumn and winter.

Feeding

Feed every two to four weeks from March to October with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Reduce feeding during the dormant winter months.

Pruning and Wiring

Prune during the growing season (spring and summer) to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth. Simply trim above a leaf node using clean, sharp tools.

Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their natural glossy appearance.

Repotting

Repot every 1–2 years in spring using a well-draining houseplant compost. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the current one to avoid excess moisture retention.
