The Pomegranate Bonsai (Punica granatum) is a highly admired bonsai species known for its vibrant seasonal interest and beautiful ornamental features. It produces small glossy green leaves and, during the growing season, can develop striking bright orange-red flowers which may later form miniature decorative pomegranates. Its naturally twisting branches and textured bark create an attractive and mature bonsai appearance even at a young age.
As a deciduous species, the Pomegranate bonsai sheds its leaves during the winter months before producing fresh new growth in spring. This natural seasonal cycle allows the tree’s elegant branch structure to be appreciated throughout the colder months.
This particular tree stands approximately 33cm tall and is elegantly presented in a blue ceramic bonsai pot measuring 13cm depth and 13cm width. Its compact size and graceful shape make it perfect for desks, windowsills, or shelves adding a calming, natural aesthetic to any space.

Please Note: Measurements given are approximate. Depending on the season, the appearance of the tree may vary. The tree that you receive may differ in size and shape to the photo if it has grown or been pruned since.
Pomegranate bonsai trees prefer to be kept outdoors, where they can receive plenty of natural sunlight and airflow. A sunny location will encourage strong growth and increase the chances of flowering during the warmer months.
During colder winter periods, the tree will naturally lose its leaves as part of its seasonal cycle. While it is relatively hardy, protection from severe frost is recommended, such as placing it in a sheltered outdoor area or cold greenhouse.
If kept indoors temporarily, place the tree in the brightest possible location.
Watering
No strict schedule, watering needs vary based on climate, soil, airflow, and pot size.
We recommend using the submersion method, which we’ve detailed on our Best Way to Water a Bonsai Tree blog post.
Feeding
Feed weekly or fortnightly from March to October with Chrysal Liquid Bonsai Feed (2 ml per litre of water). Add directly to the water during submersion.
Regular pruning keeps your bonsai healthy, compact, and aesthetically pleasing. Growing season (March–September). Trim and pinch back new growth, which can be identified by its lighter green colour, throughout the year and whenever needed. Once the new growth is around 10cm, trim it back, leaving some new foliage.
Wiring is best done during late autumn, when the tree’s growth naturally slows. Use a wire that is approximately the same thickness as the branch. This helps gently shape and refine your bonsai’s structure over time.
