The Chinese Fringe Flower (Loropetalum chinense) is a semi-evergreen bonsai that can be kept indoors or outdoors depending on the season. Its foliage ranges in colour from copper to burgundy or deep red, providing year-round interest. It produces bright pink flowers with a distinctive, feathery appearance.
This particular tree stands approximately 35cm tall and is elegantly presented in a blue ceramic bonsai pot measuring 11cm depth and 15cm width. Its compact size and graceful shape make it perfect for desks, windowsills, or shelves adding a calming, natural aesthetic to any space.

Place your bonsai in a spot with bright, indirect light. Choose a cool room away from direct heat sources such as radiators or central heating.
Outdoors
During the summer months, your Loropetalum will appreciate being placed outdoors where it can benefit from fresh air and natural light. In colder regions or during harsh frost, it’s best to move it to a frost-free location such as an unheated greenhouse, cold frame, or indoors.
Watering
No strict schedule, watering needs vary based on climate, soil, airflow, and pot size.

Feeding
Indoors
Feed weekly or fortnightly from March to October with Chrysal Liquid Bonsai Feed (2 ml per litre of water). Add directly to the water during submersion.
Outdoors
Use Naruko Slow Release Fertiliser, either sprinkled on the soil or placed in a fertiliser baskets.
Regular pruning keeps your bonsai healthy, compact, and aesthetically pleasing. During the growing season (March–September), trim back new shoots once they grow beyond 3–4 leaves, leaving the two closest leaves intact.
Training with wire is best done during late autumn. Use wire roughly the same thickness as the branch. Wiring helps refine your bonsai’s style over time.
