Forest Japanese Cedar 26cm

The Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) bonsai is admired for its soft, feathery foliage and elegant upright growth. Its vibrant green needles form dense, textured pads that create a beautifully balanced and traditional bonsai silhouette. As an evergreen species, it retains its foliage throughout the year, offering a fresh and calming natural presence in any space.

This particular tree stands approximately 26cm tall and is elegantly presented in a brown unglazed ceramic bonsai pot measuring 14cm depth and 16cm width. Its compact size and graceful shape make it perfect for patios, balconies, or garden corners, adding a calming, natural aesthetic to any outdoor space.

Japanese Cedar bonsai is a outdoors bonsai, where they can receive plenty of natural light and airflow. A bright location with partial sun or filtered sunlight is ideal. They thrive on seasonal changes and benefit from the cooler outdoor environment.

During extreme frost or harsh winter conditions, it is recommended to provide some protection such as placing the tree in a sheltered outdoor location or cold greenhouse.

If the foliage begins to lose its vibrant colour or appears weak, it may indicate that the tree is not receiving enough light.

Watering

No strict schedule, watering needs vary based on climate, soil, airflow, and pot size.

Feeding

Feed weekly or fortnightly from March to October with Chrysal Liquid Bonsai Feed (2 ml per litre of water). Add directly to the water during submersion.

You can also use Naruko Slow Release Fertiliser, either sprinkled on the soil or placed in a fertiliser baskets.

Regular pruning keeps your bonsai healthy, compact, and aesthetically pleasing. Growing season (March–September). Trim and pinch back new growth, which can be identified by its lighter green colour, throughout the year and whenever needed. Once the new growth is around 10cm, trim it back, leaving some new foliage.

Wiring is best done during late autumn, when the tree’s growth naturally slows. Use a wire that is approximately the same thickness as the branch. This helps gently shape and refine your bonsai’s structure over time.
