Please note that your plant may vary in appearance as it grows, or you may receive a similar plant with slight differences, depending on available stock.

Asplenium nidus, also known as Bird’s Nest Fern, is a beautiful, low-maintenance fern with wavy, glossy green fronds that fan out from a central rosette. Asplenium Nidus Light Requirements

  • Ideal Light: Bird’s Nest Ferns prefer bright, indirect light. Near an east-facing or north-facing window where they receive soft morning sunlight is ideal.
  • Low Light Tolerance: They can tolerate lower light but will grow more slowly. Avoid placing in direct sunlight, as it can scorch the delicate fronds.

Asplenium Nidus Watering

  • Frequency: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Generally, this means watering every 1–2 weeks, but adjust based on temperature and humidity.
  • Avoid the Crown: Pour water directly into the soil around the base of the plant. Avoid getting water in the center “nest” or crown, as this can lead to rot.

Asplenium Nidus Humidity and Temperature

  • Ideal Humidity: Bird’s Nest Ferns love high humidity levels (60% or higher). In drier climates, a humidifier or daily misting will help maintain lush foliage.
  • Temperature Range: Keep the plant in temperatures between 65°F-80°F (18°C-27°C). They are sensitive to cold, so avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
  • Avoid Drafts and Heat Sources: Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and direct heat sources.

Asplenium Nidus Soil

  • Soil Type: Use a well-draining potting mix with added organic material, like peat moss or coconut coir, to retain moisture without becoming waterlogged. A mix designed for ferns or tropical plants is ideal.
  • Repotting Frequency: Repot every 1-2 years in the spring to refresh the soil and provide room for growth.

Asplenium Nidus Pruning and Maintenance

  • Cleaning Leaves: Gently clean the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust, allowing the plant to photosynthesize more effectively.
  • Pruning: Trim away any damaged or brown fronds near the base to encourage new growth and maintain the plant’s overall appearance.
