Placement

Native to eastern North America, the Green Globe Hemlock Bonsai thrives in bright, indirect light or partial shade. It prefers cool, moist environments and should be protected from harsh afternoon sun, especially in hotter climates. While cold-hardy, it benefits from protection against drying winter winds. Outdoor placement is strongly recommended year-round.

Watering & Feeding

Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the surface of the soil to dry slightly between waterings, but avoid letting the root ball dry out completely.

Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn) using a balanced, slow-release or liquid bonsai fertilizer. Reduce or stop feeding in late autumn and winter when growth slows.

Pruning & Wiring

Light pruning is typically sufficient to maintain the compact, rounded shape. Pinch back or lightly trim new shoots in spring and summer to encourage dense branching. Avoid cutting into old wood, as back-budding is limited.

Wiring can be applied carefully in late autumn or winter when growth is slower. Be gentle, as older branches may become brittle. Always check wires regularly to avoid scarring.
